6 Stake Youth Conference-August 13 &14

So for Friday and Saturday we were having a HUGE 6 Stake Youth Conference. Friday was full of service projects that went from Roberts, Rigby, Ririe up to Swan Valley and Pine Creek. Gary and I had the honor of getting to go with our Ward's youth and help them with a service project for the day up at Calamity Creek Campground. It was a beautiful day. Our Ward group was in charge of the B loop at the campground. We were cleaning and weeding and clearing the bushes and trees back away from the road.
All geared up and so excited to get to work! I love Sis. Byington's bright pink shades!
Still waiting to get started...........
Here we go.....wait, that doesn't look like work!! I never saw on the sheet the job for "holding down" the branches that were on the trailer! Why do the kids get that job?
The guys had to do a little "Ax Men" and cut down a couple of trees.
Aaahhhh....that's what I like to see.....kids working!!!
LUNCHTIME!!!!
We found a nice shady spot and all enjoyed a great lunch with sandwiches, cookies, chips and fruit.

Sierra LOVES it when I take her picture! ;-)
There they are riding again.....I'm pretty sure I saw a lot of that.....they all seemed to think they were in a parade or something!

We had such a great group of kids! They really are the best! Everyone likes each other and they are just so much fun to be around.
After we were done with our service project, we headed back to Rigby, after stopping for some square ice cream of course. We went and changed and then everyone headed over to the high school. They had a lot of things set up for the kids. They had some snacks set out, there were volleyball nets with big beach balls for them to play and there was the Wii set up in the cafeteria with Just Dance playing. Now that was a LOT of fun! My neighbor Annie and I were in there for about an hour, just dancing and sweating and having so much fun! I highly recommend it to everyone! Even Gary went out and did it....now that was entertaining!
Afterwards they had everyone gather out on the lawn. They had a record breaking idea that they wanted to try with all of the youth and leaders......there were about 2,000 people there. They had the Bishops of the Wards get into a circle to demonstrate for us. Basically they have a rope, and they all pull back on it together, sit on the ground and then everyone pulls up at the same time and stand right up. It's all about team work. There was this humongous rope for everyone to hold on to.....I have some video below showing the huge circle....and it actually extended out further than that at one point.
There's Abby and Gary holding on. It ended up not working....the rope was TOO big. It was stretched out so far that there really wasn't enough room with the fences and road to stretch out as far as we needed to for it to work. So they cut out a section of the rope and tried again, but it was still too big, in my opinion, and they started pulling and sitting down. Well, I was in a bad spot and it just didn't feel right to me, so I didn't really hold onto. It was a good thing, because the rope ended up breaking pretty close to where we were. There were a couple of people who really got hurt with some really bad rope burns through their fingers. Well, after that failed attempt, it was about time for dinner. They fed us some bar-b-que shredded pork sandwiches, chips, milk, grapes and brownies.
After dinner they had some amazing entertainment for us! We had a magician from Utah. He was pretty good.
Look.....she's floating!
And then the real fun.....we were able to listen to T minus 5. They are a very talented Accapella group. They were so much fun.....Gary and I had a great time really embarrassing Sierra...it was great!
See.....Gary had so much fun hanging out with the kids! He just lets loose and has fun with them, not caring if he looks like an idiot or not....we don't care! It was a great day!
The next day the kids went up to BYU-I and had a sort of EFY. They had a bunch of speakers and classes to go to. Gary and I had friends that came into town from Texas, so we went to visit with them, but Sierra stayed home and went with the Ward to the conference. She really enjoyed it. And we had a great time up in Driggs hanging out with some of our friends up there. It's always a good time when we get together.
